For September 2018 our choice for Plugin of the Month goes to Net Detective!
Net Detective is a plugin for ConnectWise Automate that brings the power of TCPDump and NMAP to the agent computer console. You can use this tool to capture network packets traveling around the remote network or scan addresses and address ranges for open ports and network connectivity.
This is a free plugin provided by Plugins4Automate and can be downloaded and installed without subscriptions.
Nmap (Network Mapper) is a free and open-source security scanner, originally written by Gordon Lyon , used to discover hosts and services on a computer network, thus building a "map" of the network. To accomplish its goal, Nmap sends specially crafted packets to the target host(s) and then analyzes the responses.
The software provides a number of features for probing computer networks, including host discovery and service and operating-system detection.
Some of the things you can do with our plugin:
- Host discovery – Identifying hosts on a network. For example, listing the hosts that respond to TCP and/or ICMP requests or have a particular port open.
- Port scanning – Enumerating the open ports on target hosts.
- Version detection – Interrogating network services on remote devices to determine application name and version number.
- OS detection – Determining the operating system and hardware characteristics of network devices.
TCPdump is a common packet analyzer that runs under the command line. It allows the user to display TCP/IP and other packets being transmitted or received over a network to which the computer is attached and imports this view back into CW Automate.
